Photo Retouching on Structure
Posted in: Graphic Design | No Comments »

Since I have some time to spare on my hands, I decided the best way was to create a post on some of the graphics we see on the web that we take for granted. Therefore I will explain to you how I turned this seemingly boring picture into something nice and appealing to the eyes. There are many post out there discussing about photo retouching on faces but it seems like buildings can get their ‘face lift’ too.
1. Get rid of the background and all unnecessary objects
When approached with a image like this the best way to deal with it is to remove everything and anything that you do not need or want, this would help you focus on what you have to deal with.
2. Find other images to cover up the areas where the images cut off
This is all about finding the right image that complements the current photo you are dealing with, look around long enough and you will come across that image.
3. Adjust the perspective of your building to suit the other image, or vice versa
By adding the grass foreground, you would sometimes realize that the building would be sitting oddly , adjust the perspective to make sure it looks like it is part of the same image.
4. Paint the building to freshen up the colors
Refresh the colors of the old dull building by panting a new layer on top of the original, similar to a kids coloring book except you have to give it a slight gradient and some shadows to make it look realistic.
5. Add nice clean windows
Have windows that seem to reflect lots of light, better still reflect part of the sky or clouds to give it a little extra touch. More or less the building is complete.
6. Remove any additional clutter
This step is optional, but I feel it gives the final work a clean and focus feel, notice that there used to be two logos’ at the top of the building. One has been removed to provide more focus, the antennas on top of the building has also been removed.
That is how the image was retouched, feel free to leave a comment or if you think there is a better way to retouch this picture do let me know.
